How booking works here

The weather decides. Rather than selling dates months ahead and cancelling half of them, we set the week’s operating days on the Sunday before and open bookings then.

Send us your dates and who is coming. We will add you to that week’s list, and on the Sunday you will get an email with the trips running, the times, and a link to book and pay.

It means a little less certainty in advance. It also means when we say a trip is running, it is running.

Trips leave from the Lord Howe Island jetty. Departure times move through the week, because Fin can’t get out of the lagoon on a low tide — so the time comes with your Sunday email rather than being fixed in advance.

Weather, cancellations, children, seasickness and what to bring are all covered in the FAQs.

What swims here

Lord Howe sits where warm water meets cool, with reef and deep ocean close together. Tropical and temperate species share the same water, on and around the southernmost coral reef in the world.

Kingfish are the main event. Wahoo, yellowfin, trevally and deep water species come into it depending on the season and the day.

Lord Howe Island is a wonderful place to visit. So natural and so beautiful. There are so many things to see and do, but the highlight of our trip was the day spent on the water with Scott from Sea Buoys. It was a great day for boating and we were lucky enough to visit Ball's Pyramid. Scott is very friendly and is born and bred on the island. He is extremely knowledgable about the history and wildlife endemic to Lord Howe. He's also a great boatsman and knows all the best fishing spots (the trevally we caught was the best tasting fish I've ever had). We can't recommend Scott and Sea Buoys highly enough.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Fishing Experience of My Life! I’ve been lucky enough to fish in plenty of places around the world, but my day out with Scotty from Sea Buoys Ocean Charters on Lord Howe Island was hands down the best fishing experience I’ve ever had. The fishing was unbelievable, caught my first ever yellowfin tuna, which was an absolute bucket-list fish for me! My mate caught a 65kg yellowfin! There were five of us on the boat and everyone caught heaps of quality fish. Scotty’s knowledge of the waters around Lord Howe is second to none, and he worked hard all day to keep us on the fish. If you love fishing and you’re heading to Lord Howe Island, do yourself a favour and get out with Scotty. You won’t regret it.
